Sustainability leaders according to the Dow Jones Sustainability Index
A cooperation of S&P Dow Jones Indices and RobecoSAM, the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI) are the first indicators tracking financial performance of the leading sustainability-driven companies on a global scale. The indices integrate an evaluation of economic, social and environmental criteria that are especially targeted at shareholder value in the long run.
Over 3,000 publicly traded companies are invited to participate and analyzed as part of the study. The results of the corporate sustainability assessment conducted by RobecoSAM are corroborated with the Global Industry Classification System (GICS) in order to establish the top company in each of the identified 24 industry groups.
Based on the results announced earlier this month, the 2013-2014 industry group leaders are the following:
For the fifth consecutive year, Roche has been announced as the group leader in the Pharmaceuticals, Biotechnology & Life Sciences Industry by the DJSI. In 2009, Roche established a number of five-year corporate goals and adopted Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to measure and monitor the progress of achieving their goals. Among these goals, reducing energy consumption and increasing energy efficiency by 10 percent by the end of 2014 were ones of the most important, and Roche is currently on target with its objectives.
