On performance measurement and Big Data with Philipp Lutzny, Senior Director Global Order Fulfillment & SCM at ADVA Optica Networking
Being present at the Supply Chain Analytics conference, held in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, the PERFORMANCE Magazine team accessed valuable insights from highly skilled professionals in the field.
One of the interviewed experts was Philipp Lutzny, Senior Director Global Order Fulfillment & SCM at ADVA Optica Networking.
In his opinion, a very important aspect nowadays is that, due to the highly dynamic business market, the need to improve innovation is accelerating, even in industries that have not been “touched” by this until now.
As Philipp Lutzny emphasized, in many companies, KPIs and performance measurement generate data, but managers sometimes do not act based on the data: “There is a lot of data generated that is not actively managed”. In his opinion, companies should focus on the tangible measures that can be taken, not only on the simple measurement processes.
Also, Lutzny considers that it is better to measure few KPIs, and to make sure you can attain tangible outcomes and improvement, other than measuring many KPIs and not being able to use their results.
When it comes to the key trends in the field in 2015, Philipp Lutzny mentioned Big Data, along with the need for different platforms that would facilitate its usage. Here, a good practice that he mentions is focusing on each piece of data instead of generating even more, without acting on it.
The challenge he mentioned for Supply Chain Analytics is finding the right and very skilled people, who are able to translate the business requirements into data analytics and the other way around.
