On brain science and gamification with Christine Tutssel at HR Summit and Expo 2014
The presentation “Leveraging the Latest in Brain Science & Gamification to Deliver the Next Generation of eLearning” was delivered, on the third day of the HR Summit and Expo 2014, by Christine Tutssel, SVP of Strategic Initiatives at Axonify.
Christine Tutssel based her presentation on explaining the drawbacks of traditional learning within organizations and how different issues can be solved by using gamification.
The challenge that Christine Tutssel identified regarding traditional corporate learning consists of the fact that employees are not able to remember and apply all they are taught in training in order to do their jobs properly.
In the context of noticeable advances in brain science, she identified three main techniques that can be used to increase learning efficiency, namely:
- Repeated retrieval/ Retrieval practices;
- Spaced repetition;
- Confidence-based assessment.
Christine Tutssel sees gamification as a rapidly emerging trend, assuming that if today the specialized market values $ 500 mil., it will be worth $ 5.5 bil. By 2018.
She also presented some important facts regarding gamification, such as:
- Game play increases participation & knowledge growth, which leads to greater learning;
- It is essential to measure success and gain real world value;
It provides a forum for social engagement, which powerfully contributes to content quality.
