About chronology in performance measurement research with Julio Araujo Carneiro da Cunha, Flavio Hourneaux Junior, Hamilton Luiz Correa at the PMA 2014 Conference
The presentation “Chronology of the Organizational Performance Measurement Research“was offered, on the third day of the PMA 2014 Conference, by Julio Carneiro da Cunha, Flávio Hourneaux Jr., from the Nove de Julho University along with Hamilton Corrêa from the University of São Paulo.
The main purpose of their research study was identifying the existing models in performance measurement and identifying the concepts involved in their evolution, in order to predict and depict trends that might affect the development of new future models. For this purpose, the researchers performed an extensive literature review on the main Management and Performance Management journals.
The researchers provided a broad analysis of the organizational performance models, which includes:
- The first half of the 20th Century;
- The 1950s, 60s and 70s;
- The 1980s;
- Early 1990s;
- Late 1990s and 2000s.
Some of the most important trends they have identified can be summarized in the following:
- Performance models are becoming more strategy-focused;
- They have an important multidimensional aspect;
- They include external aspects and stakeholders;
- There is a change in focus from transactional to relational when it comes to performance measurement.
