Talent for growth in Al-Futtaim. Dubai, 2014
In the context of strategy selection, Jeanne-Marie Bowman, the Group Head of Talent at Al-Futtaim in the United Arab Emirates, has delivered a presentation about ‘Identifying, recruiting and retaining key capabilities and embedding a performance culture to deliver strategic aspirations’.
The presentation focused on the following aspects:
- The company’s history;
- Al-Futtaim’s growth strategy;
- Growth strategy enablers.
Al-Futtaim was founded in 1930 and it is currently present in more than 100 countries, having more than 40,000 employees. In the next 5 years Al-Futtaim wants to double the size of the organization. The challenge is to achieve its growth targets through:
- Creating a high performance culture;
- Working towards a set of shared values;
- Attracting and retaining the best talent;
- Supporting people to grow to their full potential.
Jeanne-Marie Bowman presented the goal for each of the 4 aspects of the growth strategy: talent brand, work levels, leadership competencies and talent framework.

She has used the clock metaphor to highlight similarities between time passage and talent and growth strategy: progression; continuous learning and precision. As enablers of the learning and growth strategy she mentioned: HR systems, HR metrics, Communication strategy and HR competencies.
