11th HR Metrics Summit 2014, USA – Day 1
The 11th HR Metrics Summit took place at the Embassy Suites Orlando Downtown between the 24th and 26th of February 2014, assembling experts and executives from cross-industry HR departments who analysed methods of validating the HR’s role within an organization and the development of strategies for resolving company and industry wide challenges.
The focus of the HR Metrics Summit was on:

- Predictive Analytics
- Data Sets: What Matters to You and Why?
- What are the right Metrics to track?
During the first day of the conference, best practice examples of measuring recruitment, retention, self-leadership, employee turnover and compensations, were showcased. Attendees had the opportunity to become familiar with the tools, techniques and methods meant to transform human resources capabilities into measurable strategic value.
The first conference day was structured in 2 blocks: Speeches and Dual Track sessions for targeted learning.
SPEECHES
Key topics covered:
- From HR Metrics to Workforce Planning – Dave Weisbeck, CSO at Visier, covered topics such as the relationship between workforce analytics and planning, how workforce planning can support creating meaningful HR metrics and dashboards and how it can create stronger ties with finance and business leaders;
- Case Study: Business Performance Metrics– Steven Yong, representing Citi Group talked about how successful organizations are using HR analytics and how that has affected their financial success;
- The Challenges with HR Metrics Measurements: Providing Clarity & Asking the Tough Questions – Allan Church from PepsiCo and Steven Yong from Citi Group, focused their presentations on the Return on Investment of data in talent management processes and about the implications of having a values based perspective to measurement;
- Setting your Reporting & Analytics Strategy – Chris Altizer, VP of Human Resources at Pfizer, discussed about engaging the right stakeholders in the reporting and analytics stages and understanding how and when to validate information received.
- A New Way to Look at Turnover – Shira Spector from Darden restaurants and John Hausknecht from Cornell University discussed about what types of turnover impact performance most and what business outcomes are affected by turnover

- Where is the Bar? Benchmarking – Focused on how to utilize metrics in the decision making process, about the value of benchmarks and when it makes sense to use it;
- How Analytics affects Human Capital Development – Talked about how workforce is the most important asset of a business and about the effects that analytics can have in the ongoing development of workforce.
